FIELD: metallurgy, namely metal continuous casting. SUBSTANCE: method of operation of metal continuous casting plant with curvilinear technological axis comprises steps of successively casting teeming ladles, before each casting step introducing to mold joint-type seed with head having shaped cutout on its end; feeding metal to mold, drawing ingot out of it, supporting and guiding ingot by means of drive and idle rollers along curvilinear technological axis; cooling ingot surface by cooling agent sprayed from nozzles arranged between rollers; changing width of drawn ingot; removing scale layers and scum from surface of barrels of rollers along their edges by mechanical destruction between successive ladling steps. Apparatus for performing the method includes joint-type seed made of separate links having elastic members in their bodies and heads with shaped cutout on their end surface. Seed is provided with additional joint-type links connected with terminal link of seed. Each additional link includes movable cover plate having fluted outer surface and arranged in pairs along edges of link body on its opposite faces. Each pair of mutually opposite cover plates is provided with flexible members having limiters of motion value of said cover plates in the form of tie rods arranged in body of said additional link.
