FIELD: water purification. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical-mechanical treatment of water, surface water source ecology, and operation of hydraulic machines. Method of invention makes it possible to essentially increase efficiency of cleaning water, reduce amount of chemicals utilized, and also restore ecological balance in water source by way of preserving plankton and minimizing amounts of organic substance formed during operation of water pumps. Method includes pump-mediated admission of water from water-intake source through water-supply duct and pumping of water through deaerator and treatment filters accompanied with deposition therein of organic and other inclusions followed by washing filters and feeding chemical reagents for coagulating organic material present in water. Into water-supply duct, dispersed air is also fed through deaerator in amount determined by amount of plankton biomass in water-supply duct, whereas plankton deposited on filters is periodically returned into water source with washing water. In addition, plankton biomass is measured in water-supply duct before treatment filters. EFFECT: efficient and environmentally acceptable water treatment method offered. 2 cl, 2 dwg
