FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method comprises converting relative motion of driving and driven links into relative motion of intermediate and supporting links. The supporting links are locked and relative motion of the intermediate link and supporting link is thus converted into the motion of the intermediate link. The vector of the motion is inclined to the vector of motion of the driving link in the plane parallel or perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the driving link. By changing this angle one can change the gear ratio. The device has a differential mechanism that comprises four movable links one of which, intermediate one, is kinematically coupled with each of the other three links, driving, driven, and supporting links. The supporting link is locked depending on phases of motion of the intermediate link via the stop link differentially connected with the driving and driven links. There is a link that controls the ratio of speeds of the driving and driven link. EFFECT: simplified method and device. 4 cl, 10 dwg
