FIELD: rolled stock production, namely manufacture of rolled bars of ferrous and non-ferrous metals in storage shops of machine engineering plants. SUBSTANCE: billet is rolled between rolls rotating to the same side and having barrels with cylinder and cone portions in direction from cone portion to cylinder one for forming transitional cone on rolled piece. Rolling process is realized with use of vertical rolls and it is alternated with gap formation between rolls and billet. At time moment of said gap formation rolled piece is fed by gravity vertically downwards by value α, where h- maximum value of radial gap between cone surface of rolls and surface of transitional cone of billet; a- conicity angle of roll. When rolled piece is descended by above mentioned value its transitional cone portion is hold by cone surface of rolls, and gap formation is realized by drawing apart axes of rolls. It is possible to provide gap formation at rolling between rolls having flats on their cone and cylinder portions when said gap is formed by roll flats directed towards rolled piece.
