FIELD: printing industry. SUBSTANCE: folded printed matter 20 is transported being held in suspended position by folds with support in end zone 340 remote from fold. End section 32 of first part 22 of printed matter projecting forward relative to second part 24 is gripped by grip 44 set into circulatory motion and is temporarily held. Then separator 54 driven with speed differing from that of grip 44 is inserted into printed matter 20 and, with grip 44 and separator 54 moving away from each other, it lifts and moves away second part of printed matter from held first part 22 of printed matter. With printed matter 20 opened, grip 44 releases first part 22 of printed matter. EFFECT: enlarged operating capabilities. 17 cl, 8 dwg
