Suction roller is installed on hollow shaft 48. One suction head 50 of suction roller adjoins edge zone 44 from bottom. To provide opening of printed matter 26, opening member 72 and suction roller 46 hold reliably first and second parts 30, 32 of printed matter and lift them relative to each other after which opening holding member 102 is brought from bottom between parts 30, 32 of printed item to hold printed matter 26 at further transportation in open position. It provides reliable opening of printed matter without damage to it at high speed of processing and makes it possible to bring opening holding member between parts of printed matter raised relative to each other in any place.
