FIELD: mining industry; applicable in mineral opencast mining. SUBSTANCE: method is distinguished from the known ones in that in plan of working contour, paired parallel downholes are drilled. In so doing, holes close to plane of edge of bench are drilled with subgrade drilling through the width of working, and workings and chambers are formed as hollows by sectional blasting of holes with broken mass moved by blast forces. Explosion charges and stemming material are supplied to hollows through holes. EFFECT: higher efficiency and reduced labor input due to provision of effect of reflection of shock waves by reflecting plane to the side of breakage and use of effect of breakage of rock mass by flat explosive charge. 3 cl, 5 dwg
