DEVICE FOR COOLING AND PREHEATING OF OIL IN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

Abstract RU 2088765 C1

FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: oil cooling and heating member is placed in oil sump of internal combustion engine. This member is made of L-shaped tubes. Lower header is placed at inlet of cooling and heating member, and upper header is placed at outlet of member. Lower header is secured to outer lower surface of sump near its end face surface. Upper header is secured to other outer end face surface of sump. Headers are connected to outer surfaces of sump either rigidly or by means of split joint. Oil cooling and heating member is installed for connection through headers furnished with branch pipes, with cooler of engine water cooling system and with one or two water pumps of engine to provide cooling of oil and also with water space of liquid heater of engine prestarting oil heating system. Oil cooling and heating member is secured opposite to lower and upper headers to inner surfaces of engine sump either rigidly or by means of tube plates with flanges with relatively perpendicular mating surfaces. Additional pan is secured to engine oil sump. This pan is made detachable, closed type and is connected with liquid heater of engine prestarting heating system for additional heating of oil by exhaust gases.
