FIELD: ophthalmology. SUBSTANCE: first topographic parameters of visual nerve head are determined and with following parameters: excavation depth greater than 1.28 mm, rim surface area below 1.08 sq.mm, excavation surface area greater than 0.74 sq.mm, excavation volume greater than 0.37 cub.mm, nerve head volume greater than 0.46 cub.mm, glaucomatous atrophy case is diagnosed, whereas when same parameters have, respectively, following values: 0.88 mm, 1.40 sq.mm, 0.27 cub.mm and 0.44 cub.mm vascular atrophy case of visual nerve is diagnosed. EFFECT: method is very simple to carry out and requires no special equipment.
