METHOD FOR MANUFACTURE OF CASTING MODELS Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: foundry, in particular, production of casting models of casting molds for metal ingots. SUBSTANCE: method involves forming model material by making separate members; joining separate members to obtain billet; providing mechanical working of billet till predetermined sizes of casting model are obtained. Material for model may be thermoplastic polymer on the base of styrene or its derivatives or its mixture with powder filler, with content of filler reaching 50% by weight. Separate members are made as standard parts similar in shape and size by pressing. Compression mold is preliminarily heated. Material used in the process is heated to temperatures exceeding softening temperature of used thermoplastic polymer by 1.8-2 and 1.8-1.9 times. EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved quality of models.
