FIELD: textile industry, in particular, finishing operations on fabric shrinking machines. SUBSTANCE: method includes wetting and steaming of fabric, first, from the right and then from the wrong aides. Prior to wetting and steaming, adjustment is carried out by wrapping with fabric of shrinking shafts for angle depending on fabric density, and during wetting and steaming, separate regulation is effected of load exerted on fabric by each edge depending on deviation of fabric shrinkage from preset value. in this case, angle of wrapping with fabric of shrinking shafts is adjusted from 90 to 180 deg with fabric density of 100 to 300 g/sq. cm. Device has endless rubber belt, two shrinking shafts and mechanism for holding down in form of air cylinder. Installed in pair with shrinking shafts are pressing shafts with holding down mechanisms located on their ends. The latter together with pressing shafts may move relative to rigidly secured shrinking shafts. Arranged between shrinking shafts located in same piano is belt tensioning mechanism, which is made in form of load screw with right-hand and loft-hand threads and with rollers mounted on load screw. Bolt is tensioned on rollers. Holding down mechanisms have units monitoring and controlling shrinkage. Pulse transducers of units are located on rolling rollers installed at edges of fabric before and after each pressing devices of shafts. Analyzers are connected with holding down mechanisms.
