FIELD: agriculture. SUBSTANCE: present invention describes novel picolinic acid derivative of formula: 
wherein R is hydrogen atom, alkyl group, and R1 and R2, the same or different, are alkyl group alkoxy group; X is cyano group, phenoxy group; Y is oxygen atom, sulphur atom and represent 0 or 1 or salt thereof, method of preparation thereof, and herbicidal composition containing said groups as active ingredient. Picolinic acid derivative or salt thereof of the present invention shows superior herbicidal effect in small amount and is effective for suppressing various weeds within wide range. Picolinic acid derivative or salt thereof of the present invention is applied in rice fields, cultivated field, farming areas as herbicidal composition.
