FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to smelting steel from cast iron naturally alloyed with chromium, nickel, and phosphorus in various-type steel-smelting assemblies. Such cast iron is poured in into converter, after which solid metal charge is loaded and converter is blown through by oxidative gas to form intermediate chromium slag and carbon-containing semiproduct. Carbon-containing semiproduct smelt is poured over into another assembly. Refinement of smelt is performed in two steps. In the second refinement step, metal smelt is poured in into the first converter onto intermediate chromium slag remained in amount 20-100% based on total slag weight, and alloying with chromium- containing materials is effected. Smelt of naturally alloyed cast iron, prior to be poured in into converter, is treated with final slag from preceding smelting in amount providing content of silicon in cast iron at least 0.1%. EFFECT: reduced loss of chromium without increasing heat consumption. 2 cl, 4 tbl
