FIELD: coating test methods. SUBSTANCE: nickel-coated specimen is treated by chlorides and sulfur dioxide with concentration 800 ± 10 kg/sq.m and 25 + 3 mg/cu.m, respectively, at 25 + 2 C for 6 h. Elevated temperature (60 + 2 C) is then applied for 4 h followed by elevated humidity with water condensation at 40 + 2 C for 52 h. Afterwards, specimen is once again affected by chlorides and sulfur dioxide as above, by elevated temperature (60 + 2 C) for 2 h, by elevated humidity with no water condensation at 60 + 2 C for 10 h, and by cold at -40 + 2 C for 4 h. The thus treated specimen with nickel coating is held under normal climatic conditions for 2 h and all above operations are further repeated until 10% of specimen's coating surface is removed. Time required for such deterioration τy may be used to predict coating lifetime using formula: τp = 21 τy. EFFECT: facilitated test procedure. 3 dwg
