RECOVERABLE SPACE VEHICLE Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

Abstract RU 2093431 C1

FIELD: space engineering; delivery of cosmonauts and cargoes to orbital stations and return to Earth. SUBSTANCE: space vehicle includes axisymmetric case, rocket engine plant consisting of landing, vernier and control engines, fuel system, landing device and control system. Space vehicle is made in form of cylinder with ends closed with spherical convex heads. Fineness ratio of case ranges from 2.5 to 3.0. Space vehicle is placed on launch vehicle with its tail section forward. Landing rocket engines are arranged in such position that they create thrust along longitudinal axis of space vehicle in way from nose to tail section to used it for deceleration of vehicle at vertical landing on Earth. In case of damage to rocket, landing engines the space vehicle away from rocket using the propellant intended for orbital operations under standard conditions. Arrangement of crew and cargo provides for such relative position of center of mass and center of aerodynamic forces at which angle of attack ranges from 30 to 40 deg in descent section, thus ensuring aerodynamic efficiency of about 0.5-0.7 sufficient for control of trajectory of return to Earth and landing of space vehicle on cosmodrome. EFFECT: reduced expenses for manned space flights. 2 cl, 4 dwg
