FIELD: food industry. SUBSTANCE: oxygen-absorbing layers or articles are made of composition containing oxidizable organic compound and transition metal-base catalyst and are exposed to irradiation by actinic rays with wave-length in range from 200 nm to 750 nm with dose not less than 0.1 J/g, or electronic rays with dose about 0.2-20 Mrad. It is expedient to use substituted or unsubstituted ethylene-unsaturated hydrocarbon as oxidizable organic compound. It is expedient also to include photoinitiator or antioxidant to increase and/or control oxygen-absorbing properties of film or article. EFFECT: increased absorption of oxygen in food products and drinks. 19 cl, 12 tbl
