FIELD: oil, petrochemical and other industries; production, storage and dispensing of oil and its products. SUBSTANCE: in proposed method of storage reservoir is filled with medium whose density is higher than density of oil or its products in reservoir which is designed for forming liquid cushion. Material used for forming liquid cushion is ecologically clean which does not form stable emulsion with oil or its products. Liquid cushion made of ecologically clean medium is arranged in reservoir so that its level should be lower than levels of reservoir charge-discharge branch pipe. To form ecologically clean liquid cushion fresh water is used with biologically decomposable surface active substances and corrosion inhibitor or salt-containing stratal effluent ballast or circulating waters with addition of water soluble biologically decomposable corrosion inhibitors, surface active substances, or without such additions or acid free fresh water. EFFECT: facilitated storage of oil and oil products, filling and emptying of reservoirs, taking off and utilization of hydrocarbons from reservoir vapor space and their subsequent pumping. 4 cl, 1 dwg, 1 tbl
