FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: liquid to be catalyzed flows through the catalyzer in the direction of the flow of, in particular, exhaust gas of the engine from the inlet to the outlet. The distribution of temperature is measured on the side of the catalyzer or inside it to determine the average value of temperature. The average temperature is determined in the direction of the flow. The local value of temperature corresponds to the temperature in spatially bounded point of measurement. The average temperature is compared with the local one to draw a conclusion on condition of the catalyzer. The catalyzer is provided with the second temperature pickup which consists of a wire whose resistance varies with temperature and measuring portion arranged preferably parallel to the direction of the flow that is connected with the catalyzer and at least one first temperature pickup connected with the catalyzer at one point. EFFECT: simplified method and enhanced reliability of the device. 13 cl, 5 dwg
