TURNBUCKLE Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: turnbuckle has a housing wherein threaded bars are mounted. A rod with outer collar is screwed on one of the bars. The rod is provided with a conical bushing. The housing is tubular and provided with conical and cylindrical portions. The diameter of the larger end face of the conical bushing is greater than that of the cylindrical housing. A sleeve is screwed in the housing. The sleeve is locked with pin and locking nut and is connected with the other threaded rod. When overload comes the stretching force is transmitted to the rod and housing through the threaded rods. The housing and conical bushing thus interact by their conical sides producing oppositely directed forces of the same magnitude. Under normal conditions the turnbuckle behaves as a rigid rod. In an emergency situation the conical bushing begins to move along the housing under the action of inertia force of the weight. Being plastically deformed the tubular housing increases in diameter and absorb shock energy. EFFECT: improved design. 1 dwg
