FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: sealed apparatus has cover, housing provided with a connecting pipe for supplying gas with a passageway facing the cylindrical surface, and two sealing ring that seal the space between the cover and housing over the cylindrical surface. The cover is mounted for permitting axial movement with respect to the housing and provided with members for locking. Ring grooves for sealing rings are provided on the housing on both sides of the passageway exit facing the cylindrical surface of the housing. A distance between the nearest end faces of the grooves are defined by a relationship presented in the invention description. The method of supplying gas comprises communication of the connecting pipe with the pipe line, supplying gas into the space, sealing the space, axial movement and locking the cover with respect to the housing, and disconnecting the connecting pipe from the pipe line. Before filling the space with gas the cover is set and locked at an intermediate position at which the passageway of the connecting pipe and space are interconnected.
