DEVICE SETTING PLANE OF HORIZON Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: measurement technology for high-accuracy settings of plane of horizon, determination, measurement and orientation of object relative to plane of horizon. SUBSTANCE: proposed device includes case with liquid mounted on base for turn about vertical axis of base, reflector, level gauge, float submerged into liquid and coupled to case with the aid of first cardan joint, second cardan joint. Device is supplemented with damper having mobile and immobile parts which immobile part is attached to case and mobile one-to hollow cylinder, compensators put on float and mobile part of damper. Second cardan joint is set on float and is composed of three rings and hollow cylinder. First and third rings of joint are fitted with weights statically counterbalanced relative to swinging axis which are placed at different heights. Cross-hairs is anchored on end face of hollow cylinder which other end face carries reflector. Reflector can be made in the from of flat mirror or cube.
