FIELD: experimental biology and physiology. SUBSTANCE: proposed method comprises following operations of: generating signal within super-high frequency range, dividing this signal into reference signal and measuring signal, emitting latter onto region of object to be diagnosed, receiving reflected signal modulated with low-frequency signal, deriving resulting signal from reference signal and reflected signal, followed by determining physical parameter of object's region, thereby enabling diagnostician to make judgement on object's condition. Signal is emitted by waveguide having circular cross- section and attenuated with help of set of dielectric inserts, measuring signal phase being shifted by angle π and reference signal phase-by angle π/2,. Resulting signal thus-obtained is used to determine value of total dielectric permeability of object's region under study. Proposed apparatus comprises super-high frequency generator, output of which is connected with first arm of four-arm of three-decibell coupler, second are of which is connected with measurement unit, third arm-with waveguide section provided with phase modulator and processing reference signal. Both waveguide sections are constructed in such manner as to permit fine adjustment of path length of signals transmitted along them. Phase shift by angle π/2 is measuring signal section and by angle π in reference signal section makes it possible to significantly improve measurement accuracy.
