FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: claimed method of dielectric properties measurement for material bodies involves UHF signal generation, its splitting into reference and probing signals, irradiation of a body with the UHF signal during waveguide probe contact to the material under test, reception and detection of reflected, reference and composite signals. Irradiation applies waveguide wave, the wave number of which in the free space of waveguide probe filled with prismatic dielectric insert, - "[ε·k2]0.5", is selected from the range of 1.0 to 1.07 of the linear wave number of waveguide wave "[ε·k2-(mπ/b)2+(nπ/a)2]0.5" where ε is relative permittivity of the insert material; a and b are length and width of orthogonal waveguide cross-section; m and n are integer indices of propagating modes in the waveguide filled with dielectric; k is wave number of applied millimetre irradiation for free empty space, and k=2πv/c, where v is frequency, c is light speed in vacuum. Also the invention claims a device for implementation of the method.
EFFECT: improved measurement precision due to maintaining measurement independency from impedance matching of waveguide probe and material under test.
