FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves determining leukocyte number concurrently with determining erythrocyte aggregates strength and half-period of erythrocyte aggregation. Acute radiation injury severity is determined from maximum deviation of radiation injury severity index deviation, calculated from formula J=Ud/J = Ud/τ(L+n),(L+n), where J is the radiation injury severity index in relative units, Ud is the maximum erythrocyte aggregates strength (B), τ is the half-period of erythrocyte aggregation in s, L is the leukocyte number (hundred/mcl), n is the adjustment coefficient, n being equal to 0 when L is not equal to 0, n being equal to 0.1 when L is equal to 0. Maximum deviation of J being observed in the range from 0.31 to 3.0, light degree radiation injury is to be diagnosed. The range being from 3.1 to 9.0, medium severity radiation injury is to be diagnosed. The value being equal to or greater than 9.1, severe radiation injury is to be diagnosed.
