FIELD: oxidation catalysts. SUBSTANCE: catalyst is supplemented by cesium or rubidium oxide as promoter in quantity providing K/Cf or F/Rb molar ratio from 1 to 4, catalyst on the whole being composed of (in wt %): vanadium pentoxide, 5.20-6.44; potassium oxide, 15.52-30.78; cesium (rubidium) oxide, 11.68-26.30 (10.33-23.74); sulfur trioxide, 18.28-22.63; silica carrier, the balance. Catalysts of invention 1.5-2 times exceed potassium and sodium (or lithium and magnesium) containing catalysts with regard to their activity at 420 C. They enable feeding gas into first bed of contact apparatus at 370-390 C instead of 410-430 C so protecting catalyst from caking and increasing its lifetime, as well as reducing vanadium pentoxide content by 20 kg per 1 t of catalyst.
