FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: method involves photochemical chlorination of 2-chloro-p-xylene at 160-170 C, interaction of 2-chloro-p-xylyl chloride with trimethylamine at 0-5 C, thermic cleavage of 2-chloro-p-methylbenzyltrimethylammonium chloride in concentrated alkali solution at 110-120 C. The synthesized semiproduct is used for synthesis of poly-p-xylylenes used in electronics. EFFECT: increased yield, simplified technology of process.
