FIELD: oil processing, particularly, purification of benzene distillates against sulfurous and unsaturated compounds. SUBSTANCE: method is carried out in the presence of aluminium-containing catalyst. Then desired product is isolated. Monoatomic phenols are alkylated by origin benzene, the process takes place at 70-130 C and at atmospheric pressure with the help of sodium tetrachloroaluminate. Molar ratio of benzene, phenol and catalyst is 1: 1: (0.1-0.3) respectively. Phenol or 2,6-di-tert-butyl phenol is used as said monoatomic phenol. EFFECT: improved efficiency of the method. 2 cl, 2 tbl
