FIELD: manufacture of filtering tubular members from powder materials. SUBSTANCE: compaction of powder in die with tapering rod consists in powder compaction in axial direction in zone of low density after its deformation in radial direction, and upper part is formed with shoulder of high density. Powder is poured into hollow between internal surface of die and upper part of rod. First powder is compacted in the region of shoulder by upper punch and in this way, its motion upward is limited. Die together with powder is moved relative to immovable rod. When powder is moved relative to conical part of rod, zone of deformation is formed in radial direction. Zone of low density in lower part of formed member is compacted in axial direction upon completion of radial compaction. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 2 cl, 5 dwg
