FIELD: treatment of natural and sewage water to purity it from suspended and colloidal matter and dissolved impurities. SUBSTANCE: apparatus comprises contact-type flocculation chamber housing floating charge, vertical settling tank accommodating thin-layered tubular elements, filter packed with granular charging material, washing water reservoir in upper portion of apparatus body and provided with sorption-capable or ion-exchange materials and with lamps for bactericidal disinfection, pipe conduits for supply of water (sewage) to be treated and for discharge of washing water, pure water and sediment. According to one alternative embodiment, filter is packed with expanded polystyrene and fibres, while according to other alternative it is packed with material, density of which is greater than that of water. Purified water mixed with suitable reactants is admitted through inlet pipe conduit into flocculation chamber, and, next, to thin-layer settler. Coagulated suspended matter trapped in form of large flakes settles down in sediment thickener, while lighter flakes settle down in thin-layered tubular elements of settler, thereby effecting pre-clarification of water. The latter is then directed through central uptake to filter. After undergoing second step of purification on granular floating charge, clarified water arrives into washing water reservoir to be delivered from it via pipe line 1 to customers. To remove fouling matter accumulated in filtering charge, slide valve is shifted on water supply pipe conduit, thereby discontinuing water supply to apparatus. Simultaneously, slide valve is open on pipe conduit for discharging washing water from filter. It is possible to clean thin-layered elements of settler and to remove collected sediment therefrom by blowing air through settler. To effect blowing operation, slide valve on water supply pipe line 1 is closed, while slide valve on sediment discharge pipe is opened. EFFECT: effective water purification. 2 cl, 3 dwg
