FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, in particular, methods of steel melting in basic open-hearth furnace. SUBSTANCE: method includes covering the bottom with fine scrap, scrap heating with frame to form two or more overheat zones over the bath length, loading of carburizing agent to bath zones located between overheat zones, charging of low-melting material containing iron oxides and slag-forming materials. Low-melting material (scale, sinter, ore, etc. ) containing iron oxides are charged by portions. One of portions is charged after charging of a part of scrap and slag-forming materials onto slag-forming material located above carburizing agent. Then the remaining scrap is charged and cast iron is supplied and melting and finishing are effected. The offered order of charging promotes the most complete assimilation of carbon of carburizing agent and excludes foaming of slag, improved conditions of heat transmission and slag formation in furnace (due to formation of calcium ferrites in zone of contact of slag-forming materials and oxides of iron-containing low-melting material) enhances productivity by 1.9% and reduced cast iron consumption.
