FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, namely processes for melting steel in basic open-hearth furnace. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of charging onto hearth of basic open-hearth furnace small- size scrap steel; heating it; then loading carburetor with uniform layer of steel in quantity (3-10)kg/t; covering said layer from upwards with large-size scrap steel and lime and(or) limestone as slag-forming components; then heating up metallic charge; pouring melt iron; supplying technical gaseous oxygen with purity (70-75)% and performing melting and finishing stages; using as carburetor crushed carbon-containing lining with fraction size (20-180)mm. Invention allows to lower cast iron consumption until 4.5% per 1 ton of melted steel. EFFECT: reduced consumption of cast iron for melting steel, enhanced efficiency of furnace, lowered cost price of melted steel. 2 cl, 2 tbl, 2 ex
