FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: iron is melted in furnace bowl, titanium scrap or titanium alloy waste containing 4-6% aluminum is added and, when melted, ilmenite is portionwise (by 10%) added, while simultaneously reducing electric power supplied. Alumina-containing slag is then removed. Final smelt contains 55-65% titanium-containing material, 20-25% iron, and 9-13% ilmenite. Eight percent of lime is also added to fusion to additionally reduce residual aluminum level. EFFECT: optimized alloy preparation procedure. 8 cl
