FIELD: chemistry of polymers. SUBSTANCE: hydrocarbon-phenol-formaldehyde composition is prepared as follows. Reactor equipped with stirrer, reflux and thermometer is charged with molten phenol and pitch, and the whole is stirred at 95-155 C for 40-120 minutes. Temperature is then set to 80-85 C. Surfactant, formaldehyde polymer and alkali-type catalyst are added to reaction mixture and the whole is synthesized under stirring for 70 minutes. EFFECT: preparation of colloidal thermodynamically stable composition which hardens at elevated temperature without using hardener, widened range of hydrocarbons used and reduced amount of toxic waste due to absence of sewage. 1 tbl
