FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: process includes new synthesis of phthalogen which is 3,4-dicarboxyphenyl phosphonic acid. Unlike multistage synthesis known in the prior art, new method makes it possible to obtain product in shorter way. The claimed method comprises phosphilating dimethyl phthalate with diethyl phosphite in the presence of di-tert-butyl peroxide. The resulting ether is hydrolyzed to 3,4- dicarboxyphenyl phosphonic acid, and potassium salt of said acid is heated together with urea and metal salt in the presence of high-boiling organic solvent and catalylic amounts of ammonium molybdate. EFFECT: more efficient preparation method.
