FIELD: organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: invention aims at developing universal high-productivity and environmentally safe method for preparing high-quality metal phthalocyanines. To that aim, phthalic anhydride interacts with urea and salt of corresponding metal in presence of catalyst in high-boiling solvent, more particularly mixture of aliphatic linear C12-C16-hydrocarbons with boiling point 250-290 C. Utilization of above-mentioned solvent results in the following: products form mobile suspensions in this solvent, which enables their separation by common filtration and centrifugation; side reactions of chlorination of benzene nuclei of phthalocyanine leading to strong worsening of dyeing properties of phthalocyanine dyes and pigments are ruled out; productivity on conventional equipment increases by 4-5 times; solvent contains no aromatics and is characterized by lowest toxicity.
