FIELD: heat engineering; cold accumulation plants; supply of cold for air-conditioning systems. SUBSTANCE: device includes heat-insulated casing with cooled reservoir for heat-transfer agent located in its lower portion where evaporator of the refrigerating machine is mounted. Device is provided with appliance for additional chilling of the heat-transfer agent which is provided with coil pipe line located in upper portion of casing and used for connection with heat-transfer system. Pipe line is coaxially arranged inside water distributor provided with calibrated orifices and plates located in lower portion above reservoir forming passages between them for flow of cooling air, baffles for directing the heat-transfer agent on plates being located in upper portion. Casing is divided into two sections. Portion of water distributor located in each section is connected with pipe line through valves. Method of operation of device includes chilling of heat-transfer agent in reservoir and additional chilling on plates located in sections under reservoir by sprinkling them with heat-transfer agent fed from heat-transfer system and supplying the cold atmospheric air between plates. Ice is frozen on plates of one section and ice formed on plates of other section melts and is discharged to cooled reservoir. Chilling of heat-transfer agent in reservoir is effected due to accumulation of cooled heat-transfer agent from one section, melting of thrown ice from other section and/or extraction of heat by evaporator of refrigerating machine. For freezing ice, sprinkling the plates is effected at definite density. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency. 3 cl, 2 dwg
