FIELD: metal cutting tools, in particular, devices for fast disconnection of head from holder and automatic withdrawal. SUBSTANCE: unit has holder with opening open at one end and at least one hole in opening wall, and head with shank adapted to be received in opening and provided with receptacle, which is adapted for accommodation of retaining device. Retaining device has at least one retaining spherical member and driving member for positioning of spherical member by bringing it into contact with associated hole. Driving member is arranged within receptacle of shank. Access of driving member to it is provided at side of head surface unobstructed by holder. Hole has inclined portion and spherical portion configured similar to retaining member. Inclined portion is positioned lengthwise and behind spherical portion. Driving member has driving spherical part adapted for cooperation with pusher. Such construction prevents holder retaining mechanism from contamination. EFFECT: increased efficiency, simplified construction and enhanced reliability in operation. 10 cl, 10 dwg
