FIELD: braking ships in emergency. SUBSTANCE: method for braking the supership moving at constant speed consists in swinging the rudder to port or starboard at full ahead speed depending on navigational situation through an angle of 30-35 deg and reducing the ahead speed to slow speed. Then intake valves and fairings of side opposite to turn of ship are opened and aft guide boards are thrown, and after it ship continues her motion at deflection of 40-45 deg and angular speed of 0.5-0.7 deg/s. Then engine is stopped and motion and turn of ship are effected by inertia till course of deviation reaches 60-70 deg, and after it ship is positioned broadside to initial course and held in such position till end of drift. EFFECT: enhanced reliability. 2 dwg, 1 tbl
