FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves applying unidimensional ultrasonic detection and ranging. Brain mantle index is calculated as ratio of distance from lateral wall of temporal horn to the terminal complex to distance from temporal bone to median line. Brain trunk index is additionally calculated as ratio of distance from epiphysis to the terminal complex to distance from the vertex to the terminal complex. Cerebellum index is calculated as ratio of distance from the fourth ventricle to the terminal complex to distance from frontal bone to the terminal complex. The third ventricle index is calculated as ratio of distance between two signals from the third ventricle wall to distance from temporal bone to median line. Increase in the number and amplitude of echo signals and brain index values, drop in the third ventricle index value and growth of echo signals pulsation being observed, brain swelling growth is considered to be the case. Pulsation heights lowering down to complete vanishing in process dynamics, terminal brain state is determined. Increased amplitude of echo signals from ventricle walls, reduced brain index, increased third ventricle index, grown echo signals pulsation being observed, growing hydrocephalus is considered to be the case. Following drop in pulsation heights lowering down to complete vanishing and the third ventricle wall tremor in the pulse rhythm being observed, complete occlusion is diagnosed.
