FIELD: paper making. SUBSTANCE: composition has anhydride of cyclic dicarboxylic acid or alkyl-ketene dimer, amaromeric polymer which is amphoteric starch or amphoteric polymer based on acrylamide and polyaluminum compound. Amphoteric polymer is used in the form of amphoteric starch, for instance, cationized potato starch. Polyaluminum compound is used in the form of polyaluminum chloride, sulfate-containing polyaluminum chloride, polyaluminum sulfate, or mixture, or cocondensate of cationic dicyanamide resin and polyaluminum compound. Sizing agent is used in the form of alkyl-ketene dimer. The offered method is designed for making paper, cardboard or thin cardboard (thick paper) and may be used in wood-pulp and paper industry. Method is characterized by the fact that sizing agent is added, either into mass, or used as surface sizing agent. The latter is used in the form of the offered aqueous composition. Aqueous composition of sizing agent allows high-quality sizing, promotes dewatering in making paper and common holding of fibers and fillers. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 8 cl, 4 tbl
