FIELD: rolled stock production, namely non-reversing four-high mills for cold and hot rolling of steel sheets. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of feeding cooling liquid to zone of contact of working and backup rolls and spreading it along axis of working roll from its medium portion to edges by means of left-hand and right-hand helical grooves on surface of backup roll. In order to increase uniformness of roll cooling and to enhance quality of rolled sheets, cooling liquid is spread along helical grooves with lead angle smoothly growing from mean portion of roll barrel to its edge in range from 80-84 up to 87-95 degrees. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of roll cooling. 1 tbl
