FIELD: metallurgy, namely rolled stock production, possibly in mills for cold rolling steel sheets. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of mounting rolling and backup rolls in stand, common rotation of mutually engaged rolling and backup rolls and simultaneous feed of cooling and lubricating liquid to them. Rolls are subjected to common rotation at pressing effort (1.1-1.9)t/mm with relation of diameters of adjacent backup and rolling rolls equal to 2.8-3.6. Invention provides simultaneous formation of strengthened layer with optimal properties in necessary points of rolling and backup rolls.
