FIELD: rolled stock production, namely continuous four-high mills for cold and hot rolling of steel sheets. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of feeding cooling liquid to contact zones of rolling and backup rolls and speeding up cooling liquid along axes of rolling rolls through helical grooves in surfaces of backup rolls. In order to improve roll cooling degree and to enhance quality parameters of rolled sheets, cooling liquid is speeded up in helical grooves with lead angle lowering from previous stand to next one by 1,03-1,35 times. EFFECT: possibility for compensating non-uniform cooling of rolls in stands caused by difference of their revolution number. 1 tbl
