FIELD: radiochemical industry; recovery of spent nuclear fuel. SUBSTANCE: method involves saturation of silica gel with cesium while concentrating cesium liquor by evaporation at temperature higher than 85 C and lower than boiling point of cesium liquor. As soon as desired saturation of cesium is attained, silica gel is treated with boron-containing solution until mass content of boron becomes not over 10 mg of boron per gram of silica gel. Silica gel obtained is calcinated at 800-1000 C. Condensate (liquor after evaporation) obtained is cleaned of cesium by more than 30 000 times. EFFECT: improved specific activity of cesium gamma-ray sources, improved chemical stability of them, reduced amount of wastes. 1 dwg, 4 tbl
