FIELD: laser engineering. SUBSTANCE: solid- state laser whose effective wavelength of 1.4 mcm is safe for human skin has $$$ ion doped active medium and light pumping source isolated from active medium by additional filtering layer in the form of optical parts and/or coatings deposited on them, and/or liquid medium catching and eliminating ultraviolet rays and transmitting light in active medium excitation range. Optical density of filtering layer total throughout entire length of any laser beam path between pumping source and active medium, including path inside pumping source envelope, should be greater than 2 within wavelengths shorter than 320 nm and not greater than 0.1 in the range of active medium excitation spectrum with wavelengths greater than 360 nm. Filtering is made in laser by using, for example, cesium oxide film, 0.3-1.5 mm thick, on transparent material surface of laser components in which at least one third of their composition is $$$ and/or liquid medium containing cesium compounds, such as those based on aqueous solutions of salts of $$$ and/or $$$ with total molar concentration of $$$ ions not less than 0.4 m/l.
