METHOD FOR FIN FORMING OF ARTICLES WITH SINGLE-SIDE PERIODICITY OF ITS CONTOUR Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: plastic metal working, namely fin forming of articles with single-side periodicity of their contour such as balancing plumbs. SUBSTANCE: method for fin forming of article comprises steps of drawing together shaping members of die set, redistributing metal of deformed strip blank due to its flowing to die cavity with formation of fin between connection ribs of die set. Cavity of die set is restricted by vertical parallel walls, flat base arranged onto lower drive roll and upper shaping member with connection ribs arranged onto upper drive roll. Said upper shaping member enters between vertical walls of lower roll and rolls over lower flat base. Minimum gap between said lower flat base and shaping member is equal to thickness of article S_o. Height of connection rib h_p is equal to (0.5-0.75)S_o. Apparatus for performing the method includes two drive working rolls. One of said rolls has profile variable along its circle, other roll has constant profile. Apparatus includes entry and outlet guides mounted onto said lower roll. Connection ribs are mounted on upper roll. Constant profile of lower roll is restricted by flat base and vertical walls. Radius of described circle of roll with variable profile and radius R of constant-profile roll are determined with use of formula given in description of invention.
