FIELD: determination of position longitudes. SUBSTANCE: moment of Greenwich sidereal time of culmination of star in local meridian is determined from observations of star in meridian; then moment of Greenwich sidereal time of culmination of this star in Greenwich meridian is determined, after which longitude of position is found by difference of these moments. According to another version, observation of stars is effected outside the meridian; Greenwich hour angles of these stars are determined, after which longitude of position is found from difference between local and Greenwich hour angles of stars under observation. EFFECT: reduced consumption of labor and simplified realization of method. 3 cl
