FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves applying diagnostic set having antigen from quisqualate- binding membrane protein of nerve tissue immobilized on solid carrier and reagent for determining presence of quisqualate-binding membrane protein autoantibody. The set optionally has substratum for carrying out peroxidase reaction when binding quisqualate-binding membrane protein to its antibodies, buffer solutions, healthy people blood serum as negative control, blood serum of patients suffering from epilepsy as positive control, detergent agent and clean 96-celled polystyrene tray. The immune complex is detected by applying color peroxidase reaction when binding quisqualate- binding membrane protein to its antibodies with standard solid phase enzyme immune assay. The number of autoantibodies to quisqualate-binding membrane protein is in parallel determined in healthy people group. High concentration of the antibodies indicates the state of patient predisposition and /or availability of paroxysmal activity and /or epilepsy. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy of diagnosis. 4 tbl
