FIELD: sheep farming, in particular, positioning and retaining of sheep in milking pens. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has front wall with neck grips, feeders, longitudinal wall having carriage, drum and flexible strip disposed between carriage and drum. Carriage is provided with upper and lower frame halves having brackets with rollers movable along guides. When sheep enters milking pen, carriage is stopped in predetermined position by means of retaining mechanism. Carriage together with flexible strip is returned back to the initial position by means of pneumatic drive and vacuum device. Sheep retaining process is performed in automatic mode. EFFECT: increased efficiency, simplified construction and enhanced reliability in operation. 3 cl, 6 dwg
