METHOD OF FORMATION OF FLUSH RIVETED JOINT Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: riveting of fuselage sheet panels. SUBSTANCE: hole with a seat in external part for manufactured flush head of rivet is made in the stock of parts to be joined. Rivet with a compensator on the manufactured head is inserted in the seat, a limiting member is placed, the stack is squeezed together and the flush head and the point of rivet are formed in two stages. The limiting member is placed on the side of the manufactured head. In the first stage the compensator is partially RIVETED over and an intermediate point of rivet is formed. In the second stage both heads are finally formed in conditions of local deflection of the stack towards the external part in the area enveloped by the limiting member. Part of the flush head projecting above the surface of the external part is removed mechanically.
